The company also operates a chain of multiplex movie theaters under the Lotte Cinema brand name and engages in film production and distribution activities under the Lotte Cultureworks. In addition, it is involved in retailing of consumer electronics, e-commerce, and TV home shopping. The company was formerly known as Hyupwoo Industrial Co., Ltd. and changed its name to Lotte Shopping Co., Ltd. in November 1979. Lotte Shopping Co., Ltd. was founded in 1970 and is based in Seoul, South Korea.
