Default

The failure to pay interest or repay capital on a debt when it becomes due. This may be because a company, individual or government is unable or unwilling to meet their debt obligations. A default can lead to the loss of collateral securing the loan or legal action to recover the amount due. A default will also recorded on the credit history of individuals and companies and will lead to higher borrowing costs in the future.
